A visual library comparison

Raindrop for links. Tenoa for your visual files.

Raindrop is great for bookmarking web links across every device. I built Tenoa as a visual library for people whose work revolves around screenshots, images, and documents on their own computers.

If you stop paying, everything keeps working

Raindrop is one of the best bookmark managers available. If your primary goal is collecting articles, organizing browser links, or sharing collections with a team, Raindrop handles that remarkably well. Its free tier is generous, and it supports almost every operating system, including Android and Windows.

Problems start when you treat Raindrop as a home for visual research. Storing hundreds of high resolution images, full page screenshots, and video clips runs into the free plan's upload cap of 100 MB a month. Your media also lives on Raindrop's servers, away from the files on your computer.

I built Tenoa to solve this specific problem. Tenoa is a visual library that stores everything directly on your computer. Every time you save a screenshot, image, or PDF, Tenoa creates two plain files in a regular folder: the untouched original file and a markdown file for your note and tags. There is no proprietary container.

Search in Tenoa runs locally on your machine. It finds text inside screenshots and PDFs, reads video transcripts, and matches items by concept. You pay 49 dollars once for up to three computers, with an optional 29 dollars a year later if you want hosted sync. Your library stays on your own disk.

FAQ

Common questions and answers about both tools

How does Tenoa store my visual files?+

Every save creates two files in a normal folder on your own disk. You get the original untouched file beside a markdown file holding your note, tags, and summary. Any app on your computer can open that folder directly.

Can Tenoa search text inside screenshots?+

Yes. Tenoa on your desktop reads text inside screenshots, indexes PDF text, and transcribes saved videos. The search matches by text and meaning, running directly on your computer.

How does pricing work after the first year?+

You pay 49 dollars once for up to three desktop computers, which includes one year of updates and hosted sync. After that, hosted sync and new features cost an optional 29 dollars per year. If you stop paying, everything you own keeps working, same network sync stays free, and compatibility fixes continue.

Is there a Windows or Android version of Tenoa?+

Tenoa desktop runs on Mac and Windows today. There is no Android app.

Can I save images and screenshots from my phone?+

Yes. Free iPhone and iPad apps are live on the App Store. When you share a screenshot, image, or page from your phone, it saves into the same library on your computer.

What is Raindrop Pro pricing?+

Raindrop Pro is billed monthly or yearly, with a yearly discount of about 20 percent. I could not confirm the exact dollar price on Raindrop pages, so you should check their checkout for the current price. They offer a 30 day refund guarantee.
