Terms of sale and use
Who you are buying from
Tenoa is built by Kofi Kumi, an independent software maker operating as a sole proprietor in California, USA. Checkout is operated by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record — they are the seller named on your receipt, and they handle payment processing, sales tax, and VAT. Support and everything else about the product comes from us: hello@tenoa.app.
The free trial
The desktop app comes with a 14-day free trial, full-featured, no payment details required. It starts the first time you run the app on a computer.
When the trial ends, capturing new items, AI features, and hosted sync pause until you buy a license or enter one you already own. Your library never locks: everything you saved during the trial stays browsable, searchable, and exportable, forever, whether or not you buy. The trial is per person, not per install — reinstalling does not restart it.
The license
Your purchase buys a license to use the Tenoa desktop app on up to three desktop computers. Mac and Windows machines count together toward that limit. The license is for you: one person, or one household using the same machines.
The iPhone and iPad apps are free and do not count against the limit. The Tenoa Capture browser extensions are free.
The license is perpetual. The app you bought keeps working whether or not you ever pay again.
Your license comes as a key, delivered by email at purchase. Activating it on a computer, and occasional checks that it is still valid, involve a brief call to the payment processor's licensing service — see the privacy policy for exactly what that call contains. A key activates on up to three computers; you can deactivate an old machine to free a slot.
What your purchase includes
- The full desktop app, with your library stored as plain files on your own devices.
- Your first year of Tenoa Sync + Updates: hosted sync between your devices across networks, and new features as they ship.
- Security fixes and OS and browser compatibility fixes, free, for as long as we ship them — not tied to any subscription.
- Same-network sync between your devices, free, always.
The optional annual — Tenoa Sync + Updates
After your included first year, Tenoa Sync + Updates is $29 per year and optional. It covers the part that costs money to keep running: hosted sync across networks, plus new features released while you are current.
If you let it lapse: your app, your files, every feature you already have, same-network sync, security fixes, and compatibility fixes all keep working. Hosted sync and new features stop until you renew. Nothing you own is taken back.
Payment and refunds
Checkout runs through a third-party payment processor, named on the checkout page. Prices are shown at checkout in US dollars.
14-day refund, no questions. If Tenoa is not for you, ask within 14 days of purchase and we refund in full.
What you get if this doesn't work out
Tenoa is my product and I intend to keep building it. But you're buying early from one person, so here's what happens if I stop.
Whatever has shipped by then is yours to keep and keeps working. Your library is files on your own disk and stays readable in any editor, whether or not Tenoa exists.
If I ever decide not to carry on to the full release, I'll post it publicly on tenoa.app. You'll then have 60 days from that post to ask for your money back, in full, and you keep the app either way.
Platform dates that depend on the launch proceeding, such as the Windows installer target of October 1, carry this paragraph as their contingency.
Your library is yours
Everything you save is written as plain files on your own devices. Nothing in these terms gives us any right to your content, and no license state — lapsed, refunded, or otherwise — ever locks you out of your own files. Uninstalling Tenoa leaves them where they are.
Acceptable use
- Use Tenoa lawfully. What you save into your own library is your responsibility.
- Don't redistribute the app, resell or share license keys, or offer Tenoa as a service to others.
- Don't attempt to disrupt or abuse the hosted sync infrastructure.
The hosted sync service
Hosted sync uses Tenoa-operated discovery and relay servers to connect your devices across networks. The servers carry encrypted traffic; they cannot read your library (see the privacy policy for exactly what they see). Access to hosted sync rides your included year and then the annual. We may suspend hosted-sync access that is abusing the infrastructure; local use of the app and your files is never affected.
Warranty and liability
We work hard to make Tenoa reliable, and your files are always yours. That said, plainly and completely:
- Tenoa is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted or error-free.
- Your library is plain files on your own devices, and keeping backups of your own files is your responsibility. Tenoa is not a backup service.
- To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, or data, however arising.
- Our total liability for any claim relating to Tenoa is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim — or fifty US dollars if you paid nothing.
- You are responsible for what you save into your library and for using the app lawfully; if your unlawful use of Tenoa causes a claim against us, you agree to cover the costs it creates for us.
- Some jurisdictions do not allow certain of these limitations; where that applies, they apply to the fullest extent permitted.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, USA, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before any formal dispute, email us — most things resolve in one exchange. Any dispute that does become formal will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Sacramento County, California, and both sides consent to that venue.
Changes and contact
If these terms change, we will update this page and the effective date. Changes never apply retroactively to a purchase you already made.
