After Pocket closed

What to use after Pocket closed

Pocket shut down and Mozilla deleted the saved data from its servers. Tenoa is a visual library where every save lives in a normal folder on your own computer.

$49 once · Up to three desktop computers · 14-day free trial

If you stop paying, everything keeps working

Pocket closed on 8 July 2025 and its saved data was deleted after the export window. If you miss a reading queue, Tenoa is the wrong app because it has no reading list. Instapaper, Readwise Reader and Raindrop are the places to look.

When you save a web page, the markdown file holds the text and the main image is saved with it. Every save lives in a normal folder on your computer with the original file beside the markdown file. Any app can open the folder. Sharing a page from your phone saves it into the library on your computer.

Search runs on your computer, and it finds text inside screenshots and PDFs. It also reads video transcripts and matches by meaning.

Tenoa costs $49 once for up to three of your computers with a year of updates and hosted sync. After that, an optional $29 a year covers hosted sync and new features. There is a 14-day free trial and no card is needed. If Tenoa ever stopped existing, the folder of files and markdown notes would still be on your computer.

Fair is fair

When a reading app is the better pick

A reading app offers a reading list, a reader view and read-aloud, and Tenoa has none of these.

  • Instapaper has a free tier and premium featuresInstapaper has a free tier, with Premium at $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year adding full-text search, a permanent archive of articles, a PDF reader, text-to-speech, and Kindle integration.
  • Readwise Reader comes with the Readwise Full planReadwise Reader comes with the Readwise Full plan, which is $9.99 a month billed yearly or $12.99 billed monthly, and there is a 30-day free trial.
  • Raindrop accepts the old Pocket exportRaindrop accepts Pocket's CSV export and has a free tier with unlimited bookmarks and collections, and Pro adds full-text search, saved copies of pages, and an AI assistant.
  • If you need an Android appTenoa has no Android app, and Instapaper and Raindrop have one.

If you want a reading list, I think one of these three apps is a better choice for you.

I checked the Instapaper, Readwise Reader and Raindrop prices and features against their own pages on 6 October 2026, and prices change over time.
